# Mont Blanc, Europe's highest peak, shrinks by more than a metre in a year

French surveyors measuring Mont Blanc found the Alpine summit is 1.3 metres lower than a year ago, partly due to reduced snowfall and summer heat. The "roof of Europe" has been shrinking for years and its height fluctuates with wind and precipitation, but the trend is widely seen as another sign of climate-driven change in mountain environments.
