# Antarctica's 'doomsday' glacier will keep melting even if oceans cool

Scientists studying Antarctica's Thwaites Glacier, nicknamed the "doomsday" glacier, found its retreat will continue regardless of future ocean cooling. The glacier already holds enough ice to raise global sea levels by roughly 60 centimetres, and its collapse could destabilise much of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet. The finding suggests some sea-level rise is now locked in, complicating coastal planning worldwide.
