# Somalia announces it will hold national elections in 2027

Somalia's government said it plans to hold national elections in 2027, setting a timeline for a vote long disputed between federal leaders and regional states. The country has struggled to agree on an electoral model since its last indirect, repeatedly delayed vote in 2021-2022. The announcement matters because a credible 2027 poll could strengthen Somalia's fragile federal system, while any slippage risks further political deadlock and insecurity.
